The Foundation introduces the holistic approach to sustainable trail care and construction.
LEVEL I: THE FOUNDATION
We discuss current industry standards, guidelines and best management practices for sustainable trail construction, repair and maintenance. Topics covered include layout/design, trail assessment, realignment & repair, hazard & structure assessment, trail classification and risk management. Building to regional factors is emphasized as participants are introduced to the concept of the Sustainability Equation. A thorough overview of current standards and best management practices is provided. Once participants become conversant with the foundational concepts of sustainable design, creativity and adaptability are encouraged to build exciting, innovative trails.
APPLICABLE FOR: Volunteer & professional trail crews, and all trail associations with specific curriculums available for OHV, MTB, hiking, multi use & equestrian.
TIMELINE:
Day 1 begins with a half day theory in the classroom followed by a half day field session in the afternoon to assess trails & wood structure where we’ll determine potential solutions to encourage critical thinking.
Day 2 focuses on practical training to work on a half day build project as determined.
